Postdoctoral researcher

I study regional resilience, firm capabilities, international trade, and the geography of economic adjustment.

I am a regional and international economist working at the intersection of regional development, international trade, firm strategy, and global production networks. My research asks how firms and places adapt to shocks, technological change, and sustainability pressures.

About me

Research Interests

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Luiss center for European Analysis and Policy (LEAP) at Luiss University, working at the intersection of international economics, regional economics, and firm strategy. My research focuses on how trade, global value chains, and the international organization of production shape firms’ and regions’ capacity to adjust to economic shocks and policy change. My current work examines geoeconomic fragmentation and trade policy, with particular attention to how disruptions in international sourcing are absorbed through supplier substitution, higher input costs, and changes in real production across global value chains.

A second strand of my research studies the firm-level foundations of resilience and strategic autonomy. I examine how internationalization, innovation, digital capabilities, and circular economy strategies affect firms’ ability to reduce strategic dependencies and adapt to systemic shocks. More broadly, I am interested in how the organization of production across firms, countries, and regions conditions the distribution of adjustment costs and the resilience of local economies.

My research interests include regional and firm resilience, international trade, global and regional value chains, industrial policy and strategic autonomy, circular economy strategies, and the spatial consequences of structural change.

Current projects

Geoeconomic Shocks and Adjustment in Global Value Chains
This project studies how geoeconomic shocks are absorbed within global value chains, distinguishing between supplier switching, higher input costs, and real production contraction. It separates real reallocation from price effects and examines when strategic dependence can be overcome through substitution and when it instead translates into inflationary pressure and output losses
Peer-based regional resilience and interregional benchmarking
Develops a framework for measuring regional resilience relative to comparable peer regions rather than only against a region’s own pre-shock trajectory.
Circular economy investments and resilience in global value chains
Examines how circular economy investments shape the resilience of GVC firms, with particular attention to how managerial and inter-firm governance conditions influence their ability to translate these investments into resilience.
Regional capabilities, ownership networks, and structural change
Uses firm ownership links, input-output connections, and capability measures to study how regions are positioned within changing economic networks.
Digital connectivity and resilience-relevant capabilities
Explores whether ICT and digital capabilities moderate the relationship between external exposure and regional or firm-level adaptation.
The microfoundations of open strategic autonomy
Studies how firm-level innovation capabilities can reduce import dependency and contribute to more resilient regional and national economies in a context of geopolitical, technological, and sustainability-related disruptions.
